Peoria
Hospitality Industry

Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the Peoria area.

Peoria is about a three-hour drive southwest of Chicago, and less than an hour’s drive northwest of Bloomington, in the beautiful and fertile Mississippi Valley of north central Illinois. A short drive west of Peoria, the legendary Spoon River with its mud holes full of huge catfish immortalized by Edgar Lee Masters’ famous anthology, twists and turns past the many small towns scattered along its banks. A short drive northwest of Peoria, a popular hiking venue is the Rock Island Trail, formerly the old steam engine train tracks of the Rock Island Line that gave early prairie farmers an alternative to hauling their produce by wagon, lined with landmarks of early American history. The mansions of the early whiskey magnates, and the Fibber McGee and Molly Museum filled with memorabilia of this legendary radio show and its era, also are popular attractions. In the 1920s, Vaudeville producers would test new acts routinely before Peoria audiences, regarded as the most typically American, whose reactions would signal whether the act ever would appear anywhere else, hence the saying, “Will it play in Peoria?” Richard Nixon also used Peoria similarly to measure the success of his campaigns among Midwesterners, and the town has earned the All American City distinction three times in the last fifty years.
